Install A Flat Screen Tv Wall Mount

Flat screen TVs are usually only a few inches thick, which lets you mount them on the wall the same way you would a mirror or a picture frame. That saves you considerable floor space for other things while still letting you watch TV without a fuss. Because flat screen TVs are so heavy, however, you usually need a wall mount to hang it safely. The wall mount needs to be installed with care in order to prevent the TV from slipping and damaging your wall.

Instructions

1. Use a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall where you wish to place the TV mount. The studs provide the stability and support to hold the TV safely. When you locate them, mark the positions using a pencil or a piece of chalk.

2. Place the first half of the wall mount in position on the wall, lining up the spots for the screws with the locations you marked. Screw the mount into the wall using lagscrews. Test it carefully to make sure it is secure and then tighten the lagscrews with a wrench.

3. Lay down towels on the floor so that you can lay the flat screen TV down without scratching or marring the screen. Carefully tilt the TV back until it lies face down on the towels.

4. Fit the second part of the wall mount into position on the back of the TV and screw it tightly into place. Test to ensure that it is tight and can support the full weight of the TV.

5. Lift the TV onto the wall, fitting the first half of the mount onto the second half. Check the fittings to make sure they are secure, and then lock the two halves of the mount together. (Specifics will vary by the type of wall mount, but it shouldn't require any tools.)

6. Give the mount a gentle tug to make sure it is secure. Leave the mount for one or two hours, then return and check it again. In some cases, the mount may appear to be stable at first, but will sag after a time if it has not been attached properly.
