Take A Night Photo With A Lumix Dmcfz50

Shoot in manual mode to control your exposure when shooting a night-time picture.

The Lumix DMC-FZ50 was released by Panasonic in 2006. The camera is a compact digital camera that is designed to be a bridge between entry-level point-and-shoot models and digital single lens reflex cameras. The FZ50 features a number of different shooting modes including two night-shooting scene modes -- "Night landscape" and "Night portrait." These programs will set the camera's shutter and aperture values to take the best possible picture. You can also take night pictures using the camera in manual mode.

Instructions

1. Attach the Lumix DMC-FZ50 to a tripod, turn the camera on and turn the exposure mode dial to "M" for Manual.

2. Turn the front dial to set the lens aperture. If you want the light sources in your photo to appear as starburst, close the aperture to f16 or higher. Turn the rear dial to set the shutter speed. You want to set the shutter speed until the light meter inside the camera's viewfinder reads "-1.0"; this will underexpose the picture by one full stop. By underexposing the picture, it will give you a picture that will look like the scene you are shooting.

3. Look through the camera's viewfinder and compose the picture to your liking. Turn the focal length ring on the lens to adjust the lens from wide angle to telephoto.

4. Press the shutter release to take the picture. It will be a longer exposure, and with shooting in Manual mode the flash will not engage unless it is turned it on.
