Use A Flash Drive As An Mp3

Play music from your USB flash drive.

A USB flash drive is commonly used as a portable data device, allowing you to carry files, including MP3 files, from one computer to another. Once inserted into a computer the AutoPlay function of the computer loads the MP3 files, with a few couple clicks of the mouse, begins playing the audio over the computer's speaker system, effectively turning the USB flash drive into a portable MP3 player.

Instructions

1. Insert the USB flash drive into one of the USB ports on the computer. Momentarily the computer states it has detected a new, removable device.

2. Select "Start," (My) "Computer" and double-click the removable device icon. A window appears with all the files currently stored on the flash drive.

3. Click-and-drag the MP3 audio track into the open window from your computer. These audio tracks can originate anywhere, ranging from a saved music folder to iTunes.

4. Close out the USB flash drive window, then right-click the icon and select "Eject" from the pull-down window. Once the icon disappears you may remove the flash drive from the computer.

5. Insert the flash drive into any computer's USB port. An AutoPlay window appears, asking what program you want to load with the removable device. Select the default media player and click "OK." In a moment the music from the USB flash drive begins to play on the computer.
