Create A Panorama In Photoshop

The newer versions of Photoshop have made assembling a panorama very simple. Now even amateur Photoshop users have the opportunity to create stunning panoramic images. The software does most of the work for you. There are several variations of the photomerge feature, depending on which version of Photoshop you are using, whether CS3 or CS4.

Instructions

1. Open the files in Photoshop that you will use to create a panoramic image.

2. Click "Automate" from the File menu then "Photomerge." A window will open giving you several options for different types of panoramas. Your choices in CS4 are "Auto," "Perspective," "Cylindrical," "Spherical," "Collage" and "Reposition." You may want to use an options such as "Spherical" for more advanced, multi-row panoramas. "Auto" is appropriate for most basic panoramic images.

3. Click "Add Open Files" from the box labeled "Source Files." This will select all the images you opened in Step 1. Make sure "Blend Images Together" is checked then click "OK." Photoshop will assemble your images into a panorama. This process can take up to several minutes if you have a larger number of source files.

4. Select the cropping tool, if the edges on the generated image are flared out, and make the panorama a proper rectangle.

5. Notice the faint tear marks where the edges of the layers meet. Once you are satisfied with the panorama, click the "Layer" menu then "Merge Visible." This will merge all the pieces of the puzzle and erase the tear lines. Continue to edit the picture, treating the whole image as one layer.

6. Click the "File" menu, when you are finished editing, then "Save As." Name the file and specify where you want it saved. Select which type of file you want from the "Format" pull-down menu then click "Save." File format options include JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF, Photoshop PDF and CompuServe GIF,, among others.

7. Select your file size from the particular format options window. If you plan on printing the photo in a large format, save it at a higher quality setting. Click "OK" and your file is saved.
