Take Good Modeling Pictures

Models must appear confident at all times.

Modeling isn't just taking pretty pictures. You have to have an understanding of art and body language in order to take great photographs as a model. You should be able to get into character and express that through facial expressions and poses. A great model is confident, positive, creative and knows her body. A great photograph is natural, expressive and appears effortless.

Instructions

1. Be Confident. Confidence is a "must-have" for professional models whether male or female. If a model is uncomfortable, it shows and the photograph suffers. Confidence includes being comfortable with the camera, your body and criticism. If the photographer offers advice, you should be able to handle the emotions that come from personal insecurities with professionalism. Positivity in any situation always works in your favor. Photographers are likely to re-hire models with good attitudes.

2. Be aware of how your body looks and how it's showing off the product. Keep your back straight and maintain good posture. Keep moving as realistic movement helps to keep photos natural. Don't hold your breath. Breathe normally as this will encourage an at-ease look. Stagger the limbs in asymmetrical poses. For example, if one arm is straight then bend the other arm.

3. Practice posing in front of mirrors for casual photo shoots and with family members. A model should be aware of her body. This isn't something that every model is just born with, you learn it through practice. Learn the angles that make you look good, and the angles you can avoid. Get a couple of familiar poses down that highlight your best qualities. Practice will help you appear more confident and become more aware of the subtle characteristics that can make or break a picture.

4. Always have good communication with the photographer. It's the photographer who fully understands what the photo is supposed to say. It's the model who must say it through body language so there should be a lot of open dialogue between model and photographer. As a model, make sure you have a good grasp on the subject matter of the photo, the product you are selling or the message you are trying to convey.
