The Canon 60D digital SLR camera offers features that allow you to shoot in nearly any environment.
Canon produces the Canon 60D as one of the company's EOS series digital SLR cameras. Sitting somewhere between the T2I and 7D in terms of price, it offers many of the same functions as other cameras in the digital EOS line, but with some differences. The latest Canon EOS 60D model has high-definition video capture and a fold-out LCD screen. The many advanced features of the 60D require some time to learn, but the basics are easy.
Instructions
1. Insert the battery. If the battery is charged, it's ready to go into your Canon 60D. You will typically find the battery compartment of every EOS digital SLR camera on the bottom under the right hand grip. Open the compartment door by pushing the latch towards the body and then lifting the door up. Then slide the battery into the opening contact points first. Once it is in, shut the door by pushing it in until it clicks.
2. Attach the lens. Lenses for Canon DSLR cameras are interchangeable, meaning the same lens can fit on the Canon T2I, 7D, 5D and 60D, and they attach the same way. Unscrew and remove the caps from the lens and the front of the 60D body. The lens and the body will have matching white or red index lines that indicate the attachment position. Align these with each other and then carefully push the lens into the body. Then turn the lens clockwise (when you are facing the front of the camera) until it snaps into place.
3. Set your focus option. The focus option for the Canon EOS 60D, like many digital SLR cameras, is changed using a switch on the lens. You can choose automatic focus (AF) or manual focus (MF). Choosing auto focus means that the camera will focus for you, but with manual focus you will have to turn the focus on the lens before you take a photo.
4. Insert the memory card. The Canon 60D DSLR uses an SD card to hold your photos. To insert the SD card, open the memory card latch on the right of the 60D by sliding it back and then folding it out. Once open, slide the card contact points first and with the card label facing the back of the camera. Then close the cover.
5. Turn on the power. The power switch for the Canon 60D digital is located on the top left of the camera just under the mode dial. To turn it on, flip the switch from left to right.
6. Set the mode. The Canon 60D digital SLR offers several modes. To begin with, you will probably want to use the automatic mode until you are more comfortable with the manual settings. In automatic mode, the Canon 60D will choose the shutter speed and f-stop for you based on the lighting conditions and environment. To choose automatic mode, turn the mode dial until the green rectangle is next to the arrow.
7. Flip the LCD monitor out. The LCD monitor screen comes out by simply pulling it out from the back of the Canon 60D camera body. Once it is pulled out, it can be used while out or you can flip it around and push it back into the body so that the LCD screen is facing out from the back.
8. Focus the subject. Point the Canon 60D DLSR towards your subject using the viewfinder or LCD screen. Using the viewfinder saves battery power, but if you feel the need to use the LCD monitor screen, you can press the camera screen button found at the upper right of the back. You can then autofocus by pressing the shutter button half way. If on manual focus, you will need to twist the focus on the lens until the photo is sharp in the viewfinder or on the LCD monitor screen.
9. Take the picture. Once you are focused, take the picture by pressing the shutter button all the way down. You will hear the shutter click and you can then view your photo on the LCD screen for a moment after taking the picture regardless of whether you turned the LCD on or not.
