Copy A Tivo Movie

TiVo units are designed to record and save programs from your cable or satellite service, including movies. Moreover, you can copy moves from TiVo onto a VCR or recordable DVD very easily. It makes a great way to free up space on your TiVo's hard drive, as well as to back up a movie in the event the TiVo's hard drive crashes. TiVo has set the system up in a straightforward manner; you need only ensure that you have the proper connections and a blank VHS tape or DVD-R.

Instructions

1. Connect the "Output" jacks in the back of your TiVo to the "Input" jacks in the back of your VCR or DVD recorder. In many cases, this entails the use of RCA cables, which come in sets of three and are color coded yellow, white, and red. Depending upon your equipment, some brands of TiVo may also have an S-video output jack (which is circular and black), component video jacks (which come in threes and are color coded red, green and blue) and/or an HDMI jack (which is thin and rectangular). If your VCR or DVD recorder has corresponding input jacks, by all means use them; HDMI provides the clearest image, followed by S-video and component video, with RCA jacks bringing up the rear. (Every TiVo, VCR and DVD recorder should have RCA jacks, so you can use them regardless.)

2. Place a blank video tape in the VCR or a blank DVD-R in your DVD recorder, then turn them on.

3. Turn on the TiVo and click the "Now Playing" option. It should show you all of the movies and TV shows currently stored on its hard drive. Scroll down to the movie you wish to copy and press the "Select" button on the TiVo's remote.

4. Use the arrow keys on the remote to find the "Save to VCR" option, then press "Select" on the remote.

5. Scroll to the "Start Saving From the Beginning" option and press "Select" one last time. You then have ten seconds of blank screen before the movie starts to play. Press the "record" button on your VCR or DVD-R to start recording the movie.

6. Wait until the movie is over, then press the "Stop" button on the VCR or DVD-R. Check the copied movie to make sure it recorded properly.
