The TiVo remote control, also known as "Peanut" due to its shape, provides access to the functions of the television recorder device. The Peanut can also be used to control the television set the TiVo is attached to, in the same manner as that of a universal remote control. The procedure for setting up the Peanut so it can be used to control the TV is straightforward and does not require any knowledge of how the TV works with its own remote.
Instructions
1. Turn the TV on. Turn the TiVo on using the Peanut remote. Select the "Remote Control Setup" option from 'TiVO Central (i.e., the main control screen). Select "Settings," followed by "Remote Control."
2. Select "Part 1: TV power, volume, and mute" from the choices presented on the screen. Select the name/manufacturer of the TV that is connected to the TiVo from the list of choices presented. Follow the screens to program the Peanut to be able to control the TV. Return to "TiVO Central" when done.
3. Do the following instead if your TV is not listed: Cover the front end of the Peanut where the infrared sensor is located with your hand. Press and hold down the "TiVo" and "Power" buttons together. Release the buttons when the red light on the Peanut that has illuminated has gone out. Remove your hand from the front end of the Peanut.
4. Enter the following numeric keys on the Peanut: 0, 9, 9, 9.
5. Press the "Channel Up" pad repeatedly every two seconds until the TV turns itself off. Press the "Enter" button once.
