Replacing the speakers in your car is a great way to improve the sound quality of your car audio system. However, there are many different sizes of car speakers--knowing the right size to use when replacing your car speakers is essential if you're going to change them. Finding the right size speakers for your car can be accomplished in several different ways.
Instructions
1. Measure the speakers in your car. To accomplish this, you'll need to remove the speakers in your car. The exact methods vary, but most car door speakers can be removed by first removing the door panel and then undoing the speaker with a screwdriver or socket wrench. Speakers in the rear deck can be removed by accessing them from the trunk or removing the grilles that cover them.
2. Measure the width of the speaker cone, and the distance between the screw holes on the tabs or basket of the speaker, once you've removed it from the car. When shopping for a speaker, compare the measurements of the new speaker with the potential replacement speakers.
3. Consult with a local car audio installer if you're uncomfortable doing the process outlined in Steps 1 and 2. To find a local car audio installer, check your local phonebook.
4. Consult an online car audio retailer. Crutchfield is one of the best at this. You can go their website and enter in your vehicle information to find out which aftermarket speakers will fit into your car. See Resources for the link.
