Grab Exif Photo Data

Remove hidden EXIF data from digital photos before uploading them to websites..

Most digital cameras embed image files with data in the Exchangeable Image File format. The information in the photo's EXIF file might include the time, date and photo location, camera type, image resolution and the image size. Sometimes, the EXIF file contains personal information, including the name of the person who took the photo. Use your computer's file properties tool to grab the EXIF data on your photos before uploading them to websites, blogs or social networking sites.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button on the desktop taskbar.

2. Click your username at the top of the right-hand column of the Start menu.

3. Double-click the library folder that contains the photos with the EXIF data you want to view or remove. This is usually the "Pictures" or "My Pictures" folder. Go to the subfolder that contains the photos.

4. Right-click the photo. Select "Properties" from the context menu. This opens the Properties dialog box.

5. Click the "Details" tab. This displays the photo file's EXIF information. Scroll through the information in the Details pane to view all EXIF information.

6. Select the blue "Remove Properties and Personal Information" link to delete all EXIF information that could identify the source of the photo or the person who took the photo. Click the "Apply" button to save the changes. Repeat this process for each photo that you want to check. Click "OK" to exit the Properties dialog box.
