The App Store is one of the fun things about owning an iPhone, iPod touch or an iPad. No matter what your interests, there is almost certainly an app available--more than 100,000 and counting. The good news is many apps are free...from simple word processors and games to utilities to simplify your life.
Instructions
1. Create an Apple ID. If you have never downloaded an app before from the App Store, you will need an Apple ID to access the store's content. Visit the Apple "MyInfo" page online (See "Resources") and click the "Don't Have an Apple ID?" link. Enter your name, address and a user name and password. You will must provide a credit card.
Note: Even if you are downloading a free app free, credit card information must be on file to register the Apple ID. Your credit card will only be charged if you download a paid App.
2. Go to your iPhone/iPod Touch's home screen and press the "App Store" icon.
Note: if you are using an iPod Touch, you will need a Wi-Fi network connection to access the store.
3. Search for free apps, which you can do in several different ways.
Press the "Top 25" button in the App Store and then press "Top Free" at the top of the screen to browse the most downloaded free apps. You also can use the search option to find a specific free app (type in the topic + free) or just type "Free" in the search box and all the free apps will come up for you to browse.
4. Tap an app to view more information. If you want the app, press the "Free" button, followed by the "Install" button to initiate the download. A pop-up window will appear, asking for your Apple ID and password. Enter the information and press "OK". You will be redirected to your iPhone/iPod Touch home screen, where an icon will appear for your free App. The status bar shows when the download is complete.
