The Best Mini Dvd Players

Portable DVD players allow you to watch DVDs wherever you want.

A mini DVD player is a good device to have while on the go, but with so many of these devices on the market, determining which portable DVD player is best may be a difficult task. Considering cost, portability, screen size, dimensions, weight, battery life, playable media types and additional features, these are some of the best mini DVD players, according to evaluations by the Good Housekeeping, CNET and TopTenREVIEWS websites.

Toshiba SDP93S

The Toshiba SDP93S is ranked number one on both CNET and TopTenREVIEWS lists of best portable DVD players for its sleek look and great picture quality. Pros include a large 9-inch swivel and flip LCD screen, 800x480-pixel resolution for clear viewing, SD memory card slot for loading images and data, clear speaker performance, five-hour battery life per four-hour charge and playback of MP3, WMA and DivX media types. The downsides to this device include a remote that is large and heavy, and no USB port for attaching peripherals.

Sony DVP-FX Series

Three models from the Sony DVP-FX series ranked high on CNET, TopTenREVIEWS and Good Housekeeping's best mini DVD player lists. The Sony DVP-FX930 features a high-quality 800x480 resolution, full 180-degree 9-inch swivel screen, clear picture quality, six-hour battery life, remote control, car charger, two head phone jacks and AV ports. The device, however, lacks a USB port, DivX and other digital video file compatibility and a SD memory card slot. The Sony DVP-FX820 and Sony DVP-FX730 share the same pros and cons as the Sony DVP-FX930, but have a five-hour battery life and are slightly smaller in size at eight and seven inches, respectively.

COBY TF-DVD1023

TopTenREVIEWS and Good Housekeeping ranks the COBY TF-DVD1023 as one of the best mini DVD players on the market because of its huge 10.2-inch swivel screen that rotates 180-degrees and folds flat, anti-skip feature, two headphone jacks, pair of included headphones, remote control, car adapter, car headrest mount, parental lock and AC adapter. The three major downsides to this device includes its hefty 5-lb weight, short two-hour battery life and lack of a SD memory card slot.

Philips PET7402/37 and PET726

The Philips PET7402/37 and PET726 portable DVD players offer unique features that Good Housekeeping and TopTenREVIEWS found appealing. Each model includes two 7-inch screens (one for each viewer), lightweight (1.5 lb) design, two headphone jacks, two car-mounting kits for hands-free viewing, car charger, remote control, parental lock and USB compatibility. According to both websites, downsides of each model include a short two-hour battery life, poor anti-skip functions and no SD memory card slot for additional memory storage.
