Instructions For Film Cameras

Film cameras, unlike digital, require you to change the film once it's used up.

Digital cameras have become the most popular picture-taking devices in today's market, but film cameras aren't out of the picture altogether. If you haven't used a film camera in a while, or simply didn't grow up with one, the process of loading and unloading the film may confuse you. Although the steps to doing so are simple, they should take place in a semidark room to keep the film from being exposed to light before you take a picture.

Instructions

1. Open the camera's film compartment on the back of the camera. Most cameras either have a dial you turn to open or a lever that you pull up, push down or slide to the side. Turn the dial or adjust the lever, and pull the film compartment door open.

2. Remove the film from its container in a semidark room. Keep direct light off the film. Place the film in the left side of the camera so that the roll fits comfortably.

3. Pull the filmstrip to the right. The holes in the top and bottom of the filmstrip should fit over the little raised knobs on the right of the camera. Insert the film between the bar that the film rolls around and the other side of the camera.

4. Close the film compartment door. Take two or three pictures, or press the "Advance" button. This causes the camera to position the film accurately. Take pictures until the film is used up.

5. Press the "Camera Rewind" button. You usually find this near the knob or lever that opens the door. You can hear the camera rewind the film. The noise stops when the film is done rewinding.

6. Open the camera film compartment door and remove the roll of film. The film should be entirely rolled up into the film canister. Close the film compartment door, or insert new film roll.
