Take Photos Of Hummingbirds With A Nikon D5000 Camera

Take sharp pictures of hummingbirds using your Nikon D5000.

The Nikon D5000 is a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera that features interchangeable lenses and the ability to use hot-shoe flashes. It is a beginner digital camera featuring various scene modes, a swivel display, and D-Movie, allowing a user to take both pictures and video. The Nikon D5000 has the ability to take sharp pictures at sporting events, of nature and of moving children. Freezing objects in mid-air is possible when using a DSLR to capture an image.

Instructions

1. Power on your Nikon D5000.

2. Switch the mode dial to the "Sports" setting. To be able to freeze a hummingbird in mid-air, you need to use a combination of a wide aperture and fast shutter speed.

3. Use the "S" (Shutter) mode setting and set your shutter to a fast speed. The higher your camera is able to achieve, the better since a hummingbird will be moving quickly. Try shutter speeds faster than 1/1250 of a second to freeze the hummingbird.
