Hook Up My Security Cameras To My Tv

Hook up My Security Cameras to My TV

CCTV (closed circuit television) security cameras typically connect to a security monitor with a special connector called a BNC (British Naval Connector) cable. These monitors are expensive and can only be used in security applications. However, you can connect your TV to your security cameras by using an adapter and a video switcher. The switcher will allow you to switch between four or more cameras.

Instructions

1. Connect your security camera outputs to the inputs of the video switcher.

2. Connect the BNC-to-RCA adapter to the output of the video switcher. Many switchers have two outputs; you can use the second output to record to a DVR or a VCR. Keep in mind you will not be recording all four cameras simultaneously; your recorder will record only what is displayed on your TV. You also can use the second output to display your cameras on another TV.

3. Connect one end of the RCA male-to-male cable to the BNC-to-RCA adapter and the other end to the video input of your TV, which usually is the yellow connection port.

4. Turn on the video switcher.

5. Turn on your TV and use your remote control or menu button to navigate to the menu that allows you to select the video input. Select the input that you plugged the RCA cable into, either AUX 1, 2 or 3 or Line In.

6. Adjust the dwell time, which is how long the switcher displays each camera, or select one camera to monitor.
