Hook Up A Highdefinition Antenna

The Digital Conversion Act ended the transmission of analog television signals in 2009. A high-definition antenna is designed to pick up high-definition video and digital signals over the air. Digital and HD channels have the advantage of looking clean and crisp. You can receive digital signals on any TV that has digital or HD capabilities. However, if you have an older TV you will need a digital conversion box before you can receive digital TV from your DTV antenna. A high-definition antenna can work only with a digital or HD television.

Instructions

1. Locate the coaxial connection on the back of the TV. This is a round, threaded metal connector.

2. Screw the coaxial connector on the high-definition antenna into the port on the TV. Inset the small wire protruding from the end of the cable into the tiny hole. With your fingers or pliers, tighten the connection.

3. Plug the hi-def antenna into an outlet if necessary; some HD antennas need electric power and others do not. Check your manual or inspect your HD antenna.

4. Turn on the TV. Channel-surf to check signal strength.

5. Adjust your DTV antenna to receive the strongest signal. Some high-definition antennas have knobs to modify the signal. Others may have "rabbit ears" or another regulating device. Check your specific high-definition antenna model and adjust accordingly.
