A camera dolly enables a smooth movement during filming that otherwise would be jerky. Build a dolly using an extension ladder that will keep your video camera movement steady while it moves. Hardware supplies are needed, as are supplies from a sports store and tools commonly found in most homes.
Instructions
1. Measure the width of the extension ladder with a tape measure. Write this measurement down. Purchase a piece of wood that is the same width as the measurement taken and three times as long.
2. Place the wood horizontally on the floor. Measure two inches in from each corner. Measure an inch towards the center of the wood from each measurement and make a dot. Drill a hole through each dot made with an electric drill.
3. Hold one of the skateboard wheel assemblies so that the bend at the top is pointing right. Place the hole at the base of the wheel against the closest hole at the right edge of the wood closest to you.
4. Run a bolt through the hole in the wheel and wood. Place a nut on the end of the bolt. Tighten the nut with pliers. Repeat this procedure with another skateboard wheel assembly and the hole at the farthest corner of the wood's right side.
5. Hold a skateboard wheel assembly so that the bend at the top is pointing left. Place the hole at the base of the wheel against the closest hole at the left edge of the wood closest to you. Run a bolt through the hole in the wheel and unit. Place a nut on the end of the bolt. Tighten the nut with pliers. Repeat this procedure with another skateboard wheel assembly and the hole at the farthest corner of the wood's left side.
6. Turn the wood over. Rotate the wood so that an end is facing you. Place the extension ladder on the floor with an end facing you.
7. Hold the wood, wheel side down, over the extension ladder. Place the wood on the extension ladder so that the wheels are on the edge. Place a tripod on the unit. Screw the mounting hole at the bottom of the video camera into the screw at the top of the tripod's platform.
