Store Stereo Equipment

Dust and static electricity are the bane of stereo equipment, which must be protected from both when placed in storage. Inside the original shipping carton is the best place to store electronic equipment, secured in place with the styrofoam braces packed in the box. Keeping the gear cool and dry will also help ensure the stereo is ready for action when it's time to unpack.

Instructions

1. Use the original packing materials for each piece of stereo equipment or select boxes close in size to the components.

2. Place a layer of styrofoam packing beads, or "peanuts," in the bottom of the box.

3. Slip a clean, plastic trash bag over the stereo component and twist the end of the bag to keep it closed. This prevents dust from getting to the electronics through ventilation holes in the equipment.

4. Place the wrapped equipment in a box and add a packet of desiccant (silica gel), which is a drying material that absorbs humidity and keeps the equipment from becoming damp.

5. Seal the box with a strip of packing tape and store in a cool, dry place.
