Install An Audio Truck Amp

An audio amp in your truck will allow you to enjoy better sounding music and power subwoofers for strong bass in your music. Installing an amp takes a little bit of time, but if you stick to one step at a time, you'll do a great job. Here is install an audio amp in your truck, connected to an aftermarket stereo receiver.

Instructions

1. Cut a length of power cable, long enough to run from your battery to the location where you will be mounting the amp. Connect a ring connector to one side of the cable, and place a fuse holder and fuse into the power cable about 18 inches away from the end of the cable that will be attached to the battery.

2. Route the power cable from the battery location to the amp location. You'll probably need to go through the vehicle's firewall--look for a location where other cables are passing through and route it along with them.

3. Mount the amp in the location that you have chosen. Behind the seat often works well in trucks.

4. Connect the turn on lead wire on the back of your receiver to the amplifier. Route this wire underneath your carpet or along the scuff plates next to the truck's doors.

5. Connect the patch cable(s) from the back of your receiver to the inputs on the amplifier. Route these cables underneath the carpet or along the door as well.

6. Connect speaker wire to the amplifier's speaker wire outputs and route the speaker wire to your speaker or subwoofer locations.

7. Connect a length of ground cable to the amp's negative power terminal and connect the cable to a grounding location, like a bolt on the body of the truck floor.

8. Connect the power cable to the battery.
