Compare Wide Angle Cameras

All wide-angle camera lenses share similar properties.

Wide-angle camera lenses can vary in quality from decent to amazing, depending on the price. Lenses give photos personality and style. While wide-angle lenses may be used between different camera models, camera bodies aren't specifically designed to be wide-angle.

Focal Length

Focal length, more commonly known as "zoom", determines how close to the subject the image appears. Any length less than 40mm is considered wide-angle. The lower the length, the "wider" the image will be and more content you will place in the frame. The widest lens are called "fisheye" lens and capture 180 degrees of light in one photo, which also makes everything look round.

F-Stop

F-stop controls the amount of blur gradient in the foreground and background of an image. F-stops run from 1.0 to 22, which are written as f/1.0 and f/22. F-stops between 1.4 and 3.5 work best for wide-angle images to blur out distractions that may be in the background.

Price

Lenses can vary between $50 and thousands of dollars. For most uses, a lens less than $200 will meet most of your needs. If you're a professional photographer, a higher priced lens may need a specific requirement you need.
