Open A Hood On A Geo Tracker When The Hood Latch Cable Is Broken

The hood latch cable on a Geo Tracker is made from braided steel wire. This cable runs through a piece of small-diameter plastic conduit and terminates at the hood latch release lever inside the vehicle. As this cable ages, it can snap, rendering the hood latch release lever useless. You can't replace the hood latch release cable without opening the hood first. Replacement hood latch cables are available from auto parts stores and automotive salvage yards.

Instructions

1. Stop the vehicle on a flat surface and shift the transmission into Park or first gear (for a manual transmission). Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.

2. Exit the vehicle and look through the grille on the front of the vehicle at the hood latch mechanism. Notice the right side of the mechanism where the hood latch cable attaches to the primary hood release lever.

3. Insert a flat-head screwdriver through the grille and pry the hood release lever to the right until it pops loose and the hood releases.
