Take Apart A Motorola Razr

If you'd like to replace your Razr's keypad, upgrade or modify the SIM card, or fix the battery cover, you will need to disassemble your phone. The good news is that you can open the Razr yourself with just a few tools without scratching the paint or damaging the hardware.

Instructions

1. Turn the phone over to the back. Take off the door to the battery using a flathead screwdriver or a small plastic card like an SIM card or credit card.

2. Locate the internal SIM card. It should be under a clip on the right side. Pull the card out gently from the top.

3. Use the screwdriver to remove the two silver screws on either side of the phone.

4. Pull the bottom frame of the Razr off gently. You can use the credit card or SIM card for leverage to push the frame ajar so it can be more easily removed.

5. Pull on the bottom of the phone. This will dislodge the piece of plastic keeping the frame together.

6. Take off the keypad by bending the metal tabs holding it in place. You can use the screwdriver to gently pry the tabs up so you can better access the keypad.

7. Use the screwdriver to remove the screen cover. Remove the rubber dots in the corners of the screen. Unscrew the screws on the screen cover. Though the cover is lightly clipped into place, it can be pulled off with a little pressure. Pull the screen cover off.

8. Remove the connectors that connect the keypad to the motherboard. Unscrew the screw and push the connector until it separates from the hinges on either side.

9. Remove the LCD module. You can pop the module up using the flathead screwdriver. With a little light pressure, you can pull the module off.
