Create Studio Lighting At Home

Photo studio lighting

Great photographs require great lighting. It's why professional photographers wait for just the right natural lighting conditions before they begin shooting nature pictures. It's why professional photography studios use soft back lighting screens, umbrellas and various background scenes before they shoot portraits. Studio lighting sets, however, can be quite expensive if you buy them from photography accessory stores. How about creating your own studio-quality lighting at home by building your own light diffusion panels? Here's how.

Instructions

Create Studio Lighting at Home

1. 90-degree PVC connector joint

Attach a set of three 90-degree connector joints together side-by-side with the PVC glue. Let them dry and set. Attach another set of three 90-degree connector joints together with the glue. Glue two additional sets of joints together. Let dry. You should now have four separate sets of three connector joints firmly glued together side-by-side. These sets of joints will allow each of the light diffusion panels to stand on its own on a 3- to 4-inch base.

2. Rip-stop nylon tent material

Insert one 7-foot length of PVC pipe through one length of the white rip-stop nylon tent sleeves and then into a single 90-degree connector joint at one end and into the center connector joint of one of the set of three connector joints you created in step 1 at the other end. Do the same with the second 7-foot length of PVC pipe.

3. Light diffusion

Insert one 42-inch PVC pipe through the top width of the white rip-stop nylon tent sleeves and then into the single 90-degree connector joint at the top. Do the same with another 42-inch PVC pipe at the bottom, except you must insert the pipe into the center connector joints of the base. You should now have a single white light diffusion panel that will stand on its own two feet.

4. Black tent nylon light diffusion panel

Assemble the black tent nylon light diffusion panel in the same way with your remaining PVC pipes, black rip-stop tent nylon material and connector joints.
