Brand Name Batteries Vs Store Brands

Most portable radios and mp3 players need AA or AAA batteries in order to operate efficiently.

Whether a person carries a portable CD player or uses a digital camera, he needs to install batteries to ensure that the product works properly. While there are many name-brand batteries on the market, many stores carry their own brand along with those that are nationally known.

Power

According to BatteryTruth.info, name-brand batteries last longer than generic or store-brands. Of these, Duracell and Eveready Energizers were more durable with generation of over 1.6 amps per hour. Generic batteries lasted between 1.10 and 1.16 amps per hour.

Cost

While name-brand batteries are generally more durable than their generic counterparts, they are also more expensive. However, their durability can offset the cost if the batteries are used in items that require more hours of usage, such as fire alarms.

Warning

Batteries can be extremely dangerous if handled or disposed of incorrectly. If they are left in a product that is unused for a long period of time, they can leak and potentially ruin the product. Damaged alkaline batteries can cause potassium chloride to leak, resulting in serious burns. If thrown in a fire, batteries can explode and splash harsh, burning chemicals around the immediate area.
