Scan Slides Using An Epson V700

The Epson V700 includes a 12-slide carrier tray to scan photo slides.

The Epson V700 flatbed scanner is a powerful flatbed scanner capable of scanning slides at a resolution of 6400 dpi. Ed Hamrick author of VueScan says the Epson V700 "is one of the best high-end flatbed" scanners. One feature that photographers will certainly appreciate is the "Digital ICE" feature, which removes dust and scratches from slides and negatives during the scanning process. This feature will photographers time from having to retouch their scans manually after the scan is completed. Retailing for $549.99, the scanner includes carrier trays for slides, film strips, medium format negatives as well as 4x5 and 8x10 negatives or prints. The software package included with the scanner includes the usual Epson software to run the scanner with your computer, but also includes Adobe Photoshop Elements, a photo browser and editing software.

Instructions

1. Unpack and connect the Epson V700 to you home PC or laptop. Install the included software to your home computer. Turn on the Epson V700 and make sure your computer has located the new device.

2. Prepare your slides for scanning. Even if you have stored your slides in archival sleeves, you should still clean them gently with an anti-static cloth. The Epson V700 is equipped with a Digital ICE program to remove scratches and dust, but it is always a good practice to remove as much dust as possible prior to the scan. This cloth will remove any dust from your slide and help prevent dust from collecting on the slides surface during the scanning process.

3. Insert your photo slides into the 12-slide carrier included with the Epson V700 scanner. Place the slide carrier on the flatbed platen.

4. Start the scan by either pressing the large start button located on the front panel of the scanner itself, or you can start the scan through the Epson Scanning software included with the scanner. Scanning with the software allows you to choose the dpi settings you wish to scan at, and to manually select the folder that the scanned image will be saved to.
