Natural Light Vs Artificial Light

Some plants cannot reach maturity with only artificial light.

Natural light, which comes from the sun, gives sensations of light, color and heat. It is necessary for the proper growth and development of plants, humans and animals. While artificial light can produce some of the effects of natural light, those effects are different.

Humans

Light generated artificially, particularly from sunlamps, can give off too much ultraviolet and/or infrared radiation is harmful to humans, potentially causing headaches and other problems. Vitamin D, an essential element for humans, can only be absorbed from the natural light of the sun.

Plants

A study conducted at the Time Lapse Research Laboratory demonstrated that apples grown under artificial light were unable to fully develop their proper color and did not ripen until exposed to natural sunlight.

Animals

Artificial light can negatively affect the susceptibility of animals to cancer while natural light stimulates the migration of birds.

Mood Setting

Both natural and artificial light are used to set moods for artistic showcases and for homes. According to Eleven Interiors, "the brighter the light, the more serious the mood."
