Although buying a new TV can be an exciting, a person who purchases a TV should realize that there is a little bit of work that needs to be done on most televisions before they are cable ready and able to show all of the cable channels you subscribe to. The process varies a bit from one type of television to another, however the same general rules apply for nearly all types.
Instructions
1. Turn off the TV. Unplug the power cord from the wall.
2. Take a coaxial cable and screw it into the cable input on the back of the television. Take the other end and screw it into the cable wall jack. It is best to keep the television somewhat close to the wall jack to avoid having the coaxial cord stretch across the room or along the walls.
3. Plug the television's power cord back into the wall and turn the television back on.
4. Check the front and back of the TV for a switch that allows the television to receive the cable broadcast. The words used may differ, but most will have two options: "Air" and "Cable," "CAB," "CATV" or something similar. Move the switch away from "Air" and to whatever the cable setting is called.
5. Press the menu button on the TV and Navigate to the "Setting" or "Set Up" menu. Look for the Cable or CATV setting on the menu and make sure it is selected. This is especially important to do if you cannot find the CATV switch on the TV.
6. Push the menu button on the television remote if you are unable to find the "menu" setting on the television. On the "Settings" or "Set up" menu select the CATV or cable setting.
7. If there is an "Auto Programming" setting on the display screen, select this as well. Wait a few minutes as the television scans through all possible channels to see which ones are broadcasting. This will help you avoid getting fuzzy channels when flipping through. Your TV has now been set up to be cable ready.
