The Canon 40D is a prosumer digital SLR with a 10 megapixel sensor. It has a magnesium alloy body and can shoot 6.5 frames per second. Many professional photographers use the 40D as a secondary camera below the flagship Canon 1D and 5D models. For those who are looking to get the most out of their 40D, shooting in RAW format, an uncompressed image format that captures the raw data from the sensor to the memory card, gives you better options for prints and image editing. To shoot in RAW, you need to set the format in the camera.
Instructions
1. Press the "Menu" button. The primary Camera Menu will show first, with "Quality" highlighted. Press "Set" to enter the submenu.
2. Rotate the Quick Control Dial on the back of the camera clockwise to choose your settings. The 40D has RAW (10 megapixel) and Small RAW (2.5 megapixel) recording formats. Press "Set" to choose your preferred format.
3. Shoot in RAW+L to create both a RAW file and a JPEG file. This is useful if you are on a professional shoot and need to give the customer a sample of the images, because most people won't have the software needed to view and process RAW images.
