Before the conversion to digital television on June 12, 2009, you could schedule a VCR to record for several different time periods and different channels. The VCR was able to control what channel was being shown and, therefore, could automatically change the channel as needed. With the digital conversion, however, all analog televisions need to use a digital converter box to view over-the-air broadcasts. The VCR is unable to control the digital converter box and, therefore, you cannot schedule a recording for multiple channels. You can still schedule a recording, but you just need to preset the converter box for the channel you want to record.
Instructions
1. Press the "Menu" button on your VCR remote control.
2. Push the down arrow key until you reach "TIMER SET." The specific wording may differ depending on the manufacturer.
3. Press "OK" or "Enter" or the right arrow button, depending on your VCR's manufacturer.
4. Push the up arrow button to adjust the date, then push the right button to move to the next column and set the recording start time. Push the right button again to set the recording stop time.
5. Push "Input Select," "Input," or "Line" on the remote to change to the channel you want to record to the input you connected the converter box to, if you used RCA cables to connect the converter box. If you used a coaxial cable, set the channel to "3."
6. Push the right arrow button, then change the recording speed. Depending on your VCR model, you can choose between SP, EP or LP. LP has the longest recording time.
7. Push "Enter" or "Timer Rec," depending on your VCR manufacturer, then using the digital converter box remote, change the channel of the converter box to the channel you want to record.
