Unlock A Cingular Wireless Phone

Cingular, now known as AT&T, is a cell-phone provider used by customers in the United States. Cingular phones are usually locked for Cingular SIM cards, which means you cannot use another cell-phone provider's SIM in your Cingular phone. In order to use another provider's SIM, the cell phone must be unlocked by company representatives.

Instructions

1. Call Cingular (AT&T) customer service. Inform the representative that you would like your cell phone unlocked.

2. Provide to the representative the information that is requested, such as your account information and the make and model of your cell phone. The representative will also need the IMEI number located in your cell phone by typing *#06#. Write the number down in case it is needed later.

3. Wait for a call back from AT&T. Each unlock request has to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. They will decide if you qualify to have your phone unlocked, based on the reason for the request and your status as a customer with AT&T.

4. Enter the new SIM card from the new provider and turn off the phone. The phone will recognize the SIM and prompt you to enter the code that was given to you by AT&T.
