Convert A Hi8 Tape To A Vhs

10-15 years ago, Hi8 cassettes were the staple of compact camcorders. Hi8 8mm cassettes offered higher recording quality and fit smaller handheld video cameras. However, as the Hi8 format has been phased out of the video market, many users want to convert older tapes to the VHS standard format. With devices that support both technologies and a simple cable, users can quickly and easily convert Hi8 tapes to those playable in a VCR.

Instructions

Convert a Hi8 Tape to a VHS

1. Attach the cables to your Hi8 camcorder, plugging one cable into the "Audio Out" jack and one cable into the "Video Out" jack.

2. Turn on your handheld camcorder and VCR.

3. Connect the opposing ends of the cables to your VCR, placing the audio cable in the "Audio In" jack and the video cable in the "Video In" jack.

4. Load a blank VHS tape into your VCR and press the "Rewind" button to ensure you begin at the start of the tape.

5. Load the original Hi8 tape into your camcorder, rewinding first and then pressing the "Play" button to begin the movie.

6. Press the "Record" button on your VCR.

7. Press the "Stop" buttons on the VCR and Hi8 recorders once the original tape has finished playing.

8. Eject your VHS tape from your VCR and label it.
