Minolta Dimage Problems

Konica has released nine lines of digital cameras under the "Minolta Dimage" brand. As with any digital equipment, certain models were susceptible to errors and malfunctions, but there was also a component failure in some models which lead to the release of a service advisory by Konica.

Service

Minolta stopped manufacturing cameras in early 2006, meaning that cameras bought at the end of production, even if purchased with an extended warranty, are surely without warranty as of 2010. Konica support joined with Sony in April, 2006. But as of December 31, 2001, Konica Minolta will no longer offer support on any of its digital cameras or accessories. If you're planning to buy a used Dimage camera, be aware that you won't be able to get it serviced.

Failing Parts

Konica released a service advisory relating to Dimage cameras in the A1, 7i, 7Hi, Xi, Xt, X20, S414 and F300 lines. According to the release, an unspecified component can fail in these models, leading to a degradation in performance or complete failure of the camera. The problem can also manifest as a freezing or distortion in the camera's analog exposure display. Konica fixed this problem for users under warranty for free when it was first discovered and offered estimates for repair to users whose warranties had expired.

Model-Specific Help

Each Dimage model released still has its service documents online, including a list of FAQs that point to model-specific problems. Some common issues listed within the archives for Dimage cameras include overheating, sensitive batteries and minor issues with the anti-shake and noise reduction features.
