Get A Factory Radio Out Of A 2005 Honda Pilot

While factory car stereos are often adequate, they typically lack the features found on after-market stereos. Consequently, people often take their cars into a car audio specialist to have the factory stereo removed and a new one installed. You can save yourself the money by learning do it yourself. If you own a 2005 Honda Pilot, the factory stereo can be removed with just a few tools, making it easy to install a newer, nicer after-market stereo.

Instructions

1. Open the hood to your Pilot. Use a pair of pliers to loosen the nut holding the black battery cable to the battery terminal. Slide the cable up and off of the terminal and set it aside until you have removed the stereo.

2. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry up the the panel in the upper right corner of the factory stereo's trim panel.

3. Use your fingers to unsnap the factory stereo's trim panel from the dashboard. Pull the trim panel out slightly and disconnect the switch wires from the back of the panel. Remove the panel and set it aside.

4. Use your socket wrench to remove the four 10-mm bolts holding the stereo in place. The bolts are clearly visible once the trim panel has been removed.

5. Slide the stereo out far enough to reach behind it. Press the release tab on the wiring harness socket and pull the wiring harness plug out of the socket. Disconnect the antenna cable from the back of the stereo. Slide the stereo out of the dashboard and remove it.
