Repair A Nikon 5x Optical Zoom

Sometimes you can take simple steps to repair your lens

Problems with camera lenses are common. Sometimes your camera will show a lens error message, or the lens won't move at all. Occasionally the problem stems from poor care or misuse of the camera, like dropping the camera while the lens is out. Nikon lenses are sensitive and must be handled carefully when taking pictures. You can fix some lens problems yourself, but sometimes you will have a lens problem that requires a professional.

Instructions

1. Take out your old batteries. Replace the batteries with fresh ones after a couple minutes, and turn the camera on. Try removing the batteries and then the memory card. Re-insert the batteries and card and turn on the camera.

2. Blow compressed air into the spaces between the lens. Gently shake the lens to dislodge any debris that may have been loosened by the air.

3. Look carefully at the lens to see if anything is lodged in the lens barrels. Use your hand to tap the lens itself, or tap the body of the camera to see if anything will dislodge.

4. Pull, twist or rotate the lens by hand. Push the lens gently back to see if you can force it to retract. Turn on the camera if you hear a click to test whether the lens has been fixed.
