Download Camera Pictures To A Pc

You can edit and share photos once they are on your computer.

Many digital cameras are able to hold thousands of pictures without filling up, but unless you enjoy viewing your photos on a small LCD screen, you need to download them to a PC. Microsoft designed modern versions of Windows with digital cameras in mind, but pictures will not transfer to your computer by themselves. Understand retrieve photos from your camera so you can spend more time taking photos and less time troubleshooting problems.

Instructions

1. Plug the USB cable into the computer and camera.

Insert the USB cable that came with your camera into the computer. Plug it into your camera and turn the device on.

If this is your first time connecting the camera, Windows will have to install drivers. Typically the New Hardware Wizard has no problem recognizing most cameras. You may need to insert the software CD that came with your camera into the computer if Windows cannot find a driver, however.

After Windows has installed the device, a menu with four options will pop up. Select "Open folder to view files." The picture folder on the memory card will appear.

2. Navigate to the photos. On most cameras, the first folder that appears is "DCIM." Click on it to open. You will then see a folder displaying the name or model of the camera. Open this folder.

Depending on your camera settings, your photos will appear in one large batch, or the memory card will have them subdivided into various folders.

3. Right-click the photos you wish to download to the computer and select "Copy." You can left-click and drag a box to select multiple photos, or select the "Edit" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Select All." To save time, you can also jump back a step and right-click to copy an entire folder.

4. Navigate to the location on your PC where you wish to download the pictures. A good spot for photos is the "Pictures" or "My Pictures" folder. Click the Start button and look for one of these folders on the upper-right side of the Start Menu.

Right-click and choose "Paste." Windows will download the files to the folder. Do not turn your camera off during this process.

5. Turn the camera off and unplug it from the computer once the photo transfer is complete.
