Use A Pentax Af540 Flash

An external flash can greatly improve your photography.

The Pentax AF-540 external flash unit is appropriate for photographers who need that extra punch of light to get that perfect exposure. Using this flash is incredibly simple, so you should be able to jump right in and start enjoying this flash unit right away. It is best to use the flash unit with a digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera and rechargeable batteries.

Instructions

Attaching the Flash

1. Attach the Pentax AF-540 Flash unit to the hot shoe mount located on the top of your camera and lock it in place.

2. Turn on both your compatible digital camera and your Pentax AF-540 Flash unit.

3. Press the fire button on the camera to fire the flash.

Flash Settings

4. The flash unit will start up on TTL (through the lens) mode, which measures how much power the flash will put out based on your camera's settings. This is the automatic flash mode--just adjust your settings and the flash will adapt to them. Press the "Mode" button to go to different flash settings.

5. In P-TTL mode a pre-flash is discharged before the main flash so that the sensor can measure the subject's distance and brightness condition. The data obtained is incorporated to set the output of the main flash. This mode obtains more accurate results than with the TTL mode. Press the "Zoom" button to adjust the flash to your lens, and the flash will adjust the power settings on its own.

6. In manual mode, you can adjust the power output of the flash by rolling the adjustment wheel. It adjusts in quarter steps from 1/1--the most power--to 1/64, the least. You can also adjust the zoom of the flash by pressing the "Zoom" button to adjust the reach of the flash based on your lens.
