If your Jeep Wrangler radio has quit working, it can be replaced with a new Wrangler radio. Actual installation of the radio is not too difficult, since you'll be able to plug the new radio into the existing wiring connectors that your old radio used. The job will involve removing the existing radio first.
Instructions
1. Take out any old media (CDs, tapes) from the existing radio if possible. Set the parking brake on your vehicle, turn the ignition off, and disconnect the negative battery cable--this will prevent any possibility of a short circuit while working with the radio.
2. Pry up the vent trim panel with your panel tool. This is the long panel at the top of the dash with AC and heating vents. This will expose the top of the trimpanel that surrounds the receiver.
3. Remove two Phillips screws at the top edge of the receiver's trimpanel. These were exposed by the removal of the vent trimpanel.
4. Pry the trimpanel surrounding the receiver off, using your panel tool. This will expose four screws around the edge of the radio. Remove these screws.
5. Take out two Phillips screws holding the climate control panel in place. The climate control panel is directly below the radio opening.
6. Open your Jeep's glove box and and slide out the retaining strap. Lower the glove box out of the way.
7. Work your hand, with the 10mm wrench, through the glove box opening to behind the radio, and remove a 10mm bolt that holds the radio's rear support in place.
8. With the bolt out, pull the radio straight out of the dash. Disconnect the wiring plug in the back, along with the antenna plug. These pull straight out of the rear of the radio.
9. Plug your new Wrangler radio into the antenna and wiring harness plug. Slide it into the opening in the dash, and secure the rear support, using your 10mm wrench. Replace the four Phillips screws holding it into place, and reassemble the dash by reversing your previous steps.
