A portable TV is a joy to have when you are at a game or out camping. You will need a reliable source of power that won't run out in the middle of your program. Portable TVs are equipped to use batteries for power, but a fresh set of batteries will run out between 2 and 4 hours. Another option is your car battery. Using the following steps, you can actually power your portable TV with your car battery.
Instructions
Prepare the Equipment You Will Need to Connect Your TV
1. Check that your portable TV is working correctly. You may want to test it with an AC adapter or a set of new batteries.
2. Purchase a car adapter if you don't have one. Car adapters are not usually included with portable TVs, but they are easy to find. Check for it at your local electronics store.
3. Locate the cigarette lighter in your car. You may want to check that it is working properly and contains no dust or foreign obstacles.
4. Examine the adapter to be sure that you have the right type. One end of it should have a connector that will fit into the cigarette lighter of your car, while the other end should be able to fit into the external power source jack of your TV.
Use Your Portable TV in Your Car
5. Locate the external power source jack on your portable TV. Plug the appropriate connector of the car adapter into the jack.
6. Locate the cigarette lighter of your car. Plug the appropriate connector at the other end of the car adapter into the cigarette lighter.
7. Turn your portable TV on and pull the rod antenna out. Use the "channel+" and "channel-" buttons to search for channels. The buttons on your portable TV may be labeled differently.
8. Adjust the brightness dial for a brighter picture. You may need to hold your portable TV at a different angle to avoid a glare.
9. Adjust the length of the rod antenna if your reception is not clear. If this does not improve your reception, try moving your car to a different location.
10. Consider moving your car to an entirely different area if you are not getting reception at all. Try an area in the vicinity of a broadcasting station and away from tall structures
11. Consult your portable TV manual for further instructions on using your TV in your car.
