Harmony Remote Faq

Controlling devices on a home theater setup can be a hassle. Too many remote controls, lost remotes and brands that support single remote for multiple devices leave advanced functions out. Universal remote controls help with consolidating remotes into one quick solution, but brand-specific features are oftentimes unsupported. Enter the Logitech Harmony remote. Its functionality and ease of use provide a simple yet complete remote control solution.

Why Do I Need a Harmony Remote?

Logitech Universal Harmony remotes offer easy setup, consistent code libraries and additional brand-specific functions. Harmony remotes can control many components, such as televisions, cable boxes, Blu-ray players and even adjustable lighting.

What Brands Does the Harmony Remote Work With?

Harmony remote controls are continuously updated with new codes and devices. Nearly all remote controlled components are supported. From brand names like Sony and Samsung to lesser known brands like Olevia and Dynex, the Harmony remote will likely support it.

Do I Need a Computer to Use a Harmony Remote?

Yes. Harmony remotes update code lists and are configured through the software supplied.

How Do I Set Up a Harmony Remote?

Insert the software disc included with your remote and install the program. Additionally, you can download the most recent version of the software from Logitech's support page (see References below). Once the software is installed, plug in the remote with the USB cable supplied.

The software will automatically detect the remote. From there you can add and remove devices, create automated functions and update the firmware on your Harmony remote.

The software is easy to navigate with simple-to-follow steps. If you add another component to your setup, it is easy to integrate any new devices with this software.

Can I Create Profiles to Control Devices and Inputs?

The Harmony remote has automation features. For instance, a profile can turn on the television, select the correct input on the TV, turn on the cable box, switch the input on your receiver, turn off all components not being used and dim the lights all with one button.

Can I Control Devices From Another Room?

Some Harmony remotes are able to control devices via RF (radio frequency). This allows you to control devices from another room or components hidden inside a cabinet. They use an RF blaster located within viewing range of the components to receive the RF signal and send an infrared signal to the components.
