Wire A House For Satellite Tv

So you want to wire your house for satellite television. Depending on how many TVs you have, how far apart they are and whether you're building a new home or adding the wiring to an existing one, the difficulty of this can be anywhere from extremely easy to extremely difficult.

Instructions

Mounting the Dish and Splitter

1. Install dish according to manufacturer's directions. The dish will need to point in a roughly southern direction, depending on where you live, and there will need to be no trees, buildings, or anything else in the way, so find an appropriate place.

2. Orient the dish toward the satellite(s). The easiest way to do this is to hook it up directly to a television in your home and then have one person stand in front of the box's signal meter (a display on the TV...refer to the directions access it) while the other points the dish. When you get a signal strength of 80 percent or more, that's where the dish needs to be pointed. Lock down the dish as tightly as possible.

3. Drop the wires from the dish to where you want to set up the splitter. The downside of the satellite dish is, unlike cable, each of your televisions must receive a direct feed from this splitter, therefore you want to put this in as central a location outside your house as possible.

Wiring the Home

4. Determine how far it is from the splitter to each of the locations where you want your satellite television. Then, for each section, add 15 feet of slack wire, in case your measurements are off, or you may want to move the television one day.

5. If you have purchased a bolt of coaxial wire, you will need to cut appropriate lengths of the wire for each section. This is preferable because you get a more custom setup, however you will need to add the ends on yourself. You can also purchase precut pieces of wire that come with the ends already on, however these are harder to push through walls.

6. Run the wires to where they need to be, drilling your wall where necessary. If the wire runs across any baseboards inside your home, you can nail it to the baseboard with U-Nails and a hammer, or a staple gun.

7. Connect the wires to the boxes, connect the boxes to the televisions (refer to the manufacturer's manuals) and enjoy.
