Selfportrait Ideas

A self-portrait is a way of self-expression.

A self-portrait can be the decisive way of expressing yourself. In photography, a self-portrait can display the personality of both the subject and the photographer. An indoor self-portrait is an effective way for a photographer to understand the use of specific lenses and the concepts of composition and editing. A self-portrait can also apply to art. In art, a self-portrait can be a useful way to look at yourself in a deeper and more profound way.

Trace Outline

One self-portrait idea for artists is a trace outline of the body. You start by taking a sizable sheet of paper like a roll of newsprint or something even more substantial than that. Spread this sheet of paper across the floor and lie down on it. Have another person trace your outline with a pencil. Decorate your outline with ideas, like making it into a huge collage. Other ideas are coloring in your trace outline, or even attempting a heavy outline in markers.

Arms

Using your arm as part of a self-portrait is another idea. Begin by putting your arm on a canvas or on a piece of paper and tracing its outline. After you are done with one, do the next arm. To fill in the space of your outline, create collages all about yourself right in that space. These collages can include pictures of yourself in various situations. If you are searching for a way to incorporate more abstractness, paint the inside of your arm's trace outline.

Eye Focus

For photography, do a self-portrait involving a focus on your own eyes. Just by focusing on that singular element of your face, you can already get to some significant results. The choice of the eyes for a self-portrait is a popular one, according to Steve's Digicams. Experiment with various looks, such as letting your hair fall in front of your eyes, putting on a pair of unusual glasses, or make up your eyes heavily.

Natural Habitat

Take a self-portrait by setting up a tripod in the area of your home where you spend the most time. As you go about your normal routine, ignore the camera and try to act naturally. Set up the camera to take pictures over a period of a few minutes, using the burst mode. Or use the remote to take pictures.
