The T-Mobile G1 is a pricey piece of equipment. Still, it can eliminate the need for a separate Global Positioning System. The T-Mobile G1, which received 3 1/2 out of five stars from CNET editors, uses the Google Android operating system and relies on Google Earth for its GPS service.
Instructions
1. Begin by establishing your home or "Start" location. From the menu screen on the T-Mobile G1, go to the "Locale" button and click on it. This will take you to a screen where you can input your current location as well as set options for how you want your phone to react when your GPS reads your location at various areas. The GPS feature is built into the phone and is automatically activated when you power on your phone.
2. Return to the start menu on your T-Mobile G1 phone. Click on the Google Latitude icon on the screen. This feature will let you reveal your current location and see the locations of contacts that have also chosen to share their locations.
3. Once you activate the Google Latitude icon, you can get directions to anywhere using Google Maps and Google Earth, both integrated with the Google Android's open operating system. All you need to do is type in your destination address in the search box. You can locate destinations, plan and modify travel routes--all from the Google Latitude feature. You can also save desired start destinations.
