Make A Mobile Cb A Home Base

Mobile citizen band radios can be used as home-based radios as long as you have an antenna and power supply. CB radios were around before the Internet and online social networking became popular. CBs were one way people communicated with truck drivers, friends and family without phones. CB radios are useful for emergencies and getting directions when you are lost as well as meeting new people from as far away as your antenna signal will reach.

Instructions

1. Set up the mobile CB on a table or desk where it will stay. Place the 13.8 power supply next to the CB radio.

2. Make a clean cut on each of the two wires on the back of the CB. Use the wire stripper to expose 1/2 inch of wire on each of the two wires. There is a black and red wire.

3. Form each of the exposed wires into a "C" shape. Unwind the negative and positive terminal caps on the power supply. Connect the black (negative) wire to the negative terminal on the back of the power supply by placing the "C" shaped wire on the terminal and wind on the cap to hold the wire in place. Connect the red (positive) wire to the positive terminal and wind on the cap.

4. Connect the antenna coaxial to the back of the mobile CB where it says, "Ant" or "Ant In." You can use a base antenna mounted outdoors on the house or a mobile magnetic base antenna in the house near a window. Do not set a magnetic base mobile antenna on the CB or power supply.

5. Plug in the power supply. Turn on the power supply and the CB radio.

6. Check the standing wave of the radio by using an external SWR meter or the built-in SWR meter in the radio. The standing wave on channel 1 and channel 40 must be below 1.5 for optimal performance.
