The Canon G9 is a high-end compact camera aimed at photography enthusiasts. Like any point-and-shoot camera, the G9 is small and utilizes the LCD screen for shooting, while it takes aspects from DSLR cameras, such as high pixel counts, ISO speeds and image stabilization. The G9 replaced the older G7, with improvements being made to the gripping system, screen size and shooting capabilities.

The Canon G9 has dimensions of 4.2 inches by 2.8 inches by 1.7 inches. It weighs 13.1 oz. The LCD screen is 3 inches. A single Canon lithium-ion battery powers the camera.
Resolution and Sensor Specifications
As an 8.2 megapixel camera, the G9 has a maximum resolution of 4000 x 3000. Lower resolutions can be set to 3264 x 2448, 2592 x 1944, 1600 x 1200 and 640 x 480. The image ratio is 4:3. The sensor type is CCD, with a sensor size of 1/1.7 inches. ISO speeds can be set to automatic, hi-automatic, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600.
Shooting Capabilities
Digital zoom is available up to 4x, with a maximum wide-angle zoom of 35 mm and a maximum telephoto zoom of 210 mm. Image stabilization prevents camera shake. Automatic and manual focus options are available, with a normal focal range of up to 50 cm and a macro focal range of up to 1 cm. White balance has 6 automatic settings and one manual preset. The minimum shutter speed is 15 seconds, and the maximum shutter speed is 1/2500 seconds. Aperture priority and shutter priority modes are available. The G9 features continuous shooting. and you can set the self-timer to 2 or 10 seconds, with an additional customizable option. The camera has no remote control.
Flash
An onboard flash has a range of up to 12 feet. You can attach an external flash via a hot shoe clip. Flash modes can be set to automatic, fill-in, red-eye reduction, slow sync and off.
Video Capabilities
You can record movies at 1024 x 768, 640 x 480, 320 x 240 and 160 x 120, at either 15 or 30 frames per second. Time-lapse recording is also available
Storage
Images and videos can be stored on SD, SDHC or MMC memory cards. An additional 32 megabyte SD card is included with the camera. Images can be saved in super-fine, fine and normal quality levels. You can also save images in the uncompressed RAW format.
