Flat Screen Vs Projection Tvs

The bottom line between flat screen and Projection TVs is they look great and you will probably be satisfied with your purchase. There are however, certain characteristics each type of TV has that may suit you better, based on your viewing preferences and the layout of your room.

Flat Screen Overview

Flat-screen TVs have a great picture, and the intense competition between LCD and plasma TVs to make the best looking TV has been an advantage to the consumer. These TVs are thin, which allows them to be hung from a wall. Hanging a TV from the wall can be a space-saver.

Flat Screen Advantages

Advantages of the flat screen go well beyond the hanging on the wall option. Flat panel TVs have a wider viewing angle than projection TVs. Pictures have good color and contrast from wide viewing angles unlike the projection TV. Plasma TVs are usually better than LCD in this category. Pictures are usually brighter on flat-screen TVs, which helps if the room the television is in has a large amount of ambient light. LCD's are usually better because of their glare resistant screen. Flat screen TVs have a long lifespan that require no bulb or lamp changes. These TVs usually average a 60,000 hour viewing lifetime. That's equivalent to watching TV for eight hours a day every day for 20 years.

Projection TV's Overview

Projection TVs usually have the biggest screens and great looking pictures, but cannot be hung from the wall like the rival flat screen. Projection TVs usually have the best looking picture thanks to DLP's image chip. These pictures are hard to see from extreme viewing angles. You need to be sitting straight ahead or at a slight angle for optimal viewing.

Projection TV Advantages

Projection TVs have advantages other than their large screen and great picture. They usually have the most affordable 1080p choices. Most top brand 50 inch projection TVs start at less than $2,000. Higher quality projection TV's outperform nearly all flat panel TV's in contrast and black level performance. Projection TVs are also more energy efficient.

Considerations

The first thing you should consider when buying a new TV is your budget. Figure out how much you can spend on a TV and go from there. Also, don't just go to chain stores to compare prices. There are a lot of good deals online if you shop around. Be careful when shopping online though; make sure it's a credible site. Consider the little differences of each TV, but don't make that your determining factor; each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
