There are several reasons why you may choose to purchase a universal remote. A universal remote can act as a replacement for a remote that is either malfunctioning or lost. You can also use a universal remote to control several different devices at once, such as your television set and satellite box. Before you can use the universal remote, however, you must program the remote to each device you wish to control. Use these tips to program a universal remote for an RCA TV.
Instructions
1. Put batteries in the universal remote. Open the battery cover to determine if the remote takes AA or AAA batteries.
2. Turn the device on that you wish to control using the universal remote.
3. Find the button on the remote for the device that you want to control using the universal remote. For this example, you will be programming the remote to your TV. Therefore, you will need to find the "TV" button on the universal remote.
4. Press the TV button on the universal remote. Then, hold the button down until the "On-Off" key lights up and then stays lit. When this occurs, the universal remote is ready to be programmed. Continue to press down on the TV button, however, or else you will abort the programming process.
5. Type in the programming code for the universal remote. Enter this code by using the number buttons that are found on the remote. The exact code that you need will be found either on the back of the box that came with the universal remote or in the manual for the universal remote. 6. Look at the "On-Off" button after you have entered the code. If the button is no longer lit, your universal remote has been programmed correctly. As a way to check, attempt to turn your TV off using the remote. Repeat the process starting at step 4 if the TV did not turn off when you pressed the "On-Off" button found on the universal remote.
