Magellan Won'T Reset After Update

Taiwan-headquartered MiTAC is the parent company of Magellan, a portable GPS navigation consumer electronics company. Magellan was founded in 1986 and has more than 200 key patents in GPS technology. Its technologies have won numerous awards, including awards from "Consumers Digest," "Car and Driver," "PC Magazine," "Men's Journal," "Popular Mechanics" and "National Geographic Adventure." However, even award-winning technologies can experience glitches following updates, and Magellan products are no exception. If your unit will not reset after an update, it is, generally, easy to fix.

Instructions

1. Read your unit's manual and familiarize yourself with the procedures for updates and restarting, and the location of important features such as the "Reset" button. Each unit's features and options will vary slightly. The manual for your specific unit will assist you in resolving this common issue.

2. Turn on your unit. Take an item with a fine point, such as a paper clip or pin, and depress your "Reset" button. Your GPS should restart and the progress bar should move from left to right upon restart.

3. Select the "Menu" option, then select "View."

4. Select "Settings," then select "Restore Factory Settings." This will give you the option to confirm that you want to reset to the settings that the GPS was built with. If you wish to do this, select "Confirm."

5. Contact Magellan customer support if you continue to experience problems. Technical staff can talk you through troubleshooting possibilities. They are available by submitting an online form (see Resources) or by phone at 800-707-9971. Magellan tries to answer emails within 24 hours and answers phone calls Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
