Connect your Nikon Coolpix to your computer using a USB cable.

Nikon manufactures and markets a line of digital point-and-shoot cameras it calls Coolpix. These cameras are designed for photographers who are either just entering the digital photography market or want a small compact camera that they carry with them in jacket pocket or handbag. Taking pictures with these cameras is easy thing, but accidentally them is almost as easy. Fortunately, there are a number of programs available for PC and Mac computers that will help you retrieve those lost pictures.

Instructions

1. Turn your Nikon Coolpix camera off. As soon as you realize you have accidentally deleted a picture you should stop using the Nikon Coolpix right away.

2. Turn your home computer on, connect to the Internet and download a program to recover your lost pictures. PC Inspector's Smart Recovery, PixFix Free Photo Recover and Piriform's Recuva work on computers using Window's operating systems. Mac users can download CameraSalvage.

3. Open the program you just downloaded onto your home computer.

4. Connect the Nikon Coolpix to your home computer using a USB cable.

5. Click "File" and select "Scan" from the navigation bar in the program you have downloaded. The wording may appear a little different from program to program but the steps to complete the scan are the same.

6. Click the picture you deleted on your Nikon Coolpix camera once the scan has completed. Save the picture to your "Pictures" folder on your home computer.
