Use Macro Mode On A Digital Camera

Macro Mode Symbol

If you're like most camera users, you may not know what all those little symbols on your camera dial mean, but they can really help you get the most out of your camera. Using the macro mode (usually marked by a flower symbol) helps you take beautiful close-ups, getting you closer and sharper than ever before.

Instructions

1. Pick a subject. Half of the battle in photography is finding an interesting and provocative subject. While you're playing with the macro mode, use something easy, like a piece of jewelry or a household item.

2. Get in close. Most macro modes disable the zoom, so you have to get pretty close to your subject.

3. Take pictures. You learn photography best by experimentation, so have a fair amount of available space on your memory card and start snapping.

4. Try stepping slightly away from the main object or putting it in a field of other objects. Macro mode renders the foreground sharp and clear, while slightly blurring the background.

5. Play around with distance, light sources and how much motion your camera can withstand (i.e., does the camera need to be propped on something?). Photography is meant to be experimental and enjoyable, and with digital photography, it's never been more cost-effective to experiment.
