Use A Rotating Polarizing Filter

A polarizing filter creates richer color for most subjects.

A polarizing filter is a small piece of glass you can attach to your camera lens. It works similar to polarized sunglasses and will deepen the colors in your photo. It will also let you see through some transparent surfaces, such as water or glass, by removing the glare. By rotating the outside lens element, you can vary the degree of polarization to match the natural polarization of your subject.

Instructions

1. Attach the filter to your lens by gently rotating it clockwise until it fits snug.

2. Look through the camera viewfinder to compose your shot.

3. Rotate the outside filter element to change the polarization. Notice how the highlights and deep shadows of your subject may change slightly as you rotate.

4. Continue rotating until you find an orientation that enriches colors the most or reduces the most glare. Some subjects are more affected by polarization than others.
